The Wakefield Municipal Gas &
Light Department (WMGLD) recently sponsored an awards ceremony for the five
winners of the 2008 WMGLD Essay Contest for Galvin Middle School fifth graders
which focused on energy conservation and energy awareness. The contest, which
was held to commemorate Public Power Week and Energy Awareness Month, followed
General Manager Pete Dion’s (back row, left) visit to fifth grade classrooms at
the Galvin Middle School to talk about energy conservation, ways the students
can save energy, and how electricity and natural gas get to the students’ homes
and school. After his visit, the students were asked to write an essay about
what they learned. Five winners were selected from nearly 300 essays submitted.
The General Manager and Commissioner Jack Warchol (back row, right) congratulated the winners (front row, left to right) Jessica Dubuque, Sarah Stumpf, Matthew Hoenig, Christian Lopes and Jared Regan. Galvin Middle School Assistant Principal Therese Jarmusik (back row, second from left) and Principal Paula Mullen, (back row, second from right) added their congratulations.
