WMGLD General Manager Dion Recognized by APPA; Appointed to National Policy Makers Council



(Wakefield, MA) – Pete Dion, General Manager of the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD), was recently recognized by the American Public Power Association (APPA) for his contributions as Chairman of the organization’s Communications and Control Committee Engineering and Operations Section. He was recognized at last month’s Engineering and Operations Technical Conference.

According to the General Manager, the APPA Engineering and Operations Section assists APPA members in the operation of their electric utility systems, primarily in areas related to technical aspects of the business. In addition, the committee is involved in planning the annual Engineering and Operations Technical Conference, conducting individual concurrent sessions during the Conference on relevant topics of interest, and providing forums for members to exchanges ideas and information.

General Manager Dion currently serves as a member of the APPA Policy Makers Council, a national council which makes policy recommendations to the Board of Directors and APPA membership. As a member of the Policy Makers Council, Dion assists APPA in promoting or opposing legislation of importance to members, and to provide advice on other issues of importance to the organization. The council is comprised of 40 members who serve on utility boards or are elected officials in public power communities. 

            The council meets twice annually to work on policy issues affecting the public power industry.

            “I am honored to be recognized by APPA and my peers in the public power industry,” he said. “As a member of the Policy Makers Council, I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that will be presented by President Obama’s energy policy and the energy and climate bill, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, which is scheduled to be heard before Congressional committees beginning this month.”
