Vocational Students Retrofit WMGLD Truck for Woodchipper

Students in the Metal Fabrication shop at the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School recently began retrofitting a Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD) truck to prepare the vehicle for the installation of a wood chipper. The project was introduced by Vincent Carisella, Wakefield’s representative to the Northeast Metro Tech School Committee who worked as the liaison between the school and the WMGLD to get the project underway.

According to WMGLD Electric Superintendent Dan Flynn, right, a graduate of the school, the wood chipper will be used by trained WMGLD lineworkers when they remove branches and tree limbs from wires and transformers. This new addition to the WMGLD is expected to save thousands of dollars for the town and the WMGLD while providing a valuable learning experience for the students. Ted Nickole, left, Northeast Metro Tech Vice Principal, looked over the work being done on the truck along with (from second from left) WMGLD lineworkers Ed Gaudreau and Rich Fedele, Northeast Metro Tech students Joe Silva of Saugus, Mark Brennan of Malden, and Dave Morico of Winthrop, Metal Fabrication instructor Billy Williams, and WMGLD’s Dan Flynn.
